High Ground Veteran's Powwow 1998

The High Ground is a Veterans park near Neillsville, Wisconsin.
Every year they sponsor a veterans powwow.

In 1998 they had several special veterans dances.
Steve participated in them all.

These photos are from the Wounded In Action dance.
All of the participants are Viet Nam Vets.
All are combat Vets.

The Vets dance in a patrol formation firing blanks in their weapons.

At a certain point the point man goes down.
Female vets carry him from the field.

Another vet takes up point. At the end of the dance, all of
the vets end up in a line in front of the eagle staffs and fire
rapidly in celebration of the help from the spirits.

It is a honor to be asked to participate in this dance.
It is a deeply moving experience........

This horse is brought to the High Ground and is kept as a
living memorial to the KIA/MIA. She is never ridden.
Her blanket has all the names of the VN MIA's.
Her name is Liberty.
